Cirque du Soleil Cystal drives $2.5 million into Medicine Hat's economy
Medicine Hat, AB (June 1, 2018) – In October 2017, the Canalta Centre held a press conference to announce arguably the biggest production to come to Medicine Hat, Cirque du Soleil Crystal. Seven performances were held over five days from May 23-27 at the Canalta Centre and welcomed 15,230 guests from over 20 different cities in Canada and the US.
The total economic impact on the community of Medicine Hat by hosting Cirque du Soleil is an approximate $2.5 million. Of this figure, $765K is new spending by visitors who traveled from outside of the city.
“The spin-off of live events in our community is incredible. No matter how big or small an event is, the direct impact on our local restaurants, hotels, retail shops, transportation and more, is vital to the health of a community,” says Tammy Sweeney, general manager, Canalta Centre. “When we support live events in our community, we help support and build long-term success for our generation and those to come. This is why we do what we do.”
As a result of hosting this event, $700K supported wages and salaries in a number of different industries throughout the city – this is a significant impact over a five-day span.
Canalta Centre has a number of community focused events over the summer months, and encourages you to join in the fun.
